3.
Where does McKinney’s drinking water come from?
City of McKinney purchases its water from
North Texas Municipal Water District
(NTMWD). NTMWD utilizes Lavon Lake for the primary raw water source. Additional raw water sources are supplied by Lake Texoma, Lake Chapman and reuse.
4.

Yes, fluoride is added as prevention for tooth decay. To learn more, see information from
the NTMWD website
.
5.
What causes occasional taste and odor changes in McKinney’s water?
A natural occurrence in all surface water supplies, an “algal bloom” is responsible for the taste and odor changes in the treated drinking water supply. Algal blooms usually occur in Lavon Lake in late July and into August each year, but can occur at any time if the right conditions exist in the water supply reservoir.

6.
What is wastewater?
Wastewater (sewer) is the used water that goes down the drains. The wastewater portion of your water bill pays the costs associated with transporting and cleaning the wastewater. The City of McKinney conveys all the wastewater from homes and business through wastewater pipes to North Texas Municipal Water District where it is treated. The treated wastewater, known as effluent, is then released into local waterways where it is used again to supply drinking water, irrigate golf courses, and sustain aquatic life.
