McKinney Police Department Crime Victim Advocate

A physical or emotional injury from a crime, whether it occurred against you or a loved one, can make everyday decisions more difficult. The McKinney Police Department knows this, so we offer a crime victim advocate to help you through. Our Crime Victim Advocate provides the following services:

  • Safety planning, including emergency shelter referrals
  • Criminal justice support and advocacy
  • Crisis intervention and counseling referrals
  • Notification of Victims' Rights
  • Assistance with filing Crime Victims' Compensation claims
  • Assistance with property return
  • Court accompaniment
  • Assistance with obtaining protective orders

Crime Victims’ Compensation

Code of Criminal Procedure, Texas Crime Victims’ Compensation Act, Chapter 56, Subchapter B.

The Crime Victims’ Compensation (CVC) Program helps crime victims and their immediate families with the financial costs of crime. CVC covers crime-related costs including but not limited to counseling, medical treatment, funerals and loss of income not paid by other sources.

You can schedule an appointment to meet with the Crime Victim Advocate to receive assistance with the application. Or, you have the option of completing it yourself.

Texas Crime Victims’ Rights

The Crime Victims’ Rights are within the Texas Code of Criminal Procedure arts. 56.01 – 56.021.

    Mothers Against Drunk Driving offers services if you or a loved one has been injured by a drunk driver. They offer crisis intervention, counseling, bereavement services, and peer support. You can reach the MADD McKinney office at 214-585-4616.
