Tax Incentive Reinvestment Zone (TIRZ)

Long -Term Economic Development Tool Adopted by City Council

On September 21, 2010, after several months of analysis, discussion and meetings, the McKinney City Council voted unanimously to approve the creation of a long-term economic development tool known as a Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone (TIRZ) for the area around the McKinney National Airport.

This Is How it Works

The City of McKinney establishes a base year for tax generation in the area they call TIRZ 2 (Airport TIRZ). The taxes collected in each subsequent year within the TIRZ 2 zone are dedicated to a capital project in that zone as determined by the TIRZ Board of Directors. TIRZ is described in more detail in the TIRZ map and the TIRZ Project Plan.
