McKinney National Airport Noise Facts

McKinney National Airport recognizes the importance of being a responsible neighbor, and is committed to managing the impact of aircraft operations on local residents.

In November 2004, McKinney National Airport voluntarily completed a 14 CFR Part 150 Noise Study that examined the noise impact of aircraft operations on McKinney and surrounding communities. The study considered many factors and involved noise monitoring, stakeholder input and 15 public meetings.

The Federal Aviation Administration concluded that the critical levels of noise, as defined by federal standards, were contained primarily on airport property and that no mandatory noise abatement measures were required. Recognizing that aircraft operating on and around the airport may impact neighbors, McKinney National Airport has since incorporated a series of voluntary measures otherwise known as the Flying Friendly Initiative. 

Airport Hotline


The 24-hour airport hotline, 972-547-7399, was established in December 2003 to facilitate communication with nearby residents and to help identify atypical noise events or concerns associated with McKinney National Airport. The airport has no regulatory jurisdiction over aircraft in flight and does not control flight paths, but maintains records of complaints, investigates atypical noise events and encourages the pilot community to fly friendly over the area.

If you choose to call the hotline, please indicate whether you would like a return phone call and provide as much detail about the nature of the event and aircraft as possible. Aircraft information may include: jet or propeller driven, number of engines and mounting location on aircraft, straight or swept wing, high or low wing, fixed or retractable landing gear, color(s) and paint scheme and the aircraft registration or "N" number.

Before Calling


Before calling the hotline, please know that 14 CFR Part 19.119 of the Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs) permits aircraft to fly at altitudes that some residents believe to be a nuisance or unsafe. In fact, there is no minimum altitude required during the takeoff and landing phases of flight.

Only the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has regulatory jurisdiction over aircraft in flight. If you believe an aircraft is violating FARs, contact the FAA's Dallas Flight Standards District Office at 214-277-8500 with the registration number (located on the tail section) and description of the aircraft.
